BALTIMORE, Md. – A lifelong Baltimore sports fan from Essex hit a home run with the Maryland Lottery after winning the $182,263 progressive jackpot on a Home Run Riches Walk Off-Winnings FAST PLAY ticket.
According to the Maryland Lottery, the winner purchased the $5 ticket on July 2 and claimed his prize Thursday at Lottery headquarters in Baltimore. The jackpot-winning ticket was sold at the High’s convenience store located at 19200 Middletown Road in Parkton.
Sports fan says lottery games keep him connected to favorite teams
“I probably spend more time at the stadiums than I do at home,” the winner told lottery officials.
The Essex resident works part-time at concession stands at both Oriole Park at Camden Yards and M&T Bank Stadium while also holding a full-time job. He is also an Orioles season ticket holder and said he regularly buys Home Run Riches FAST PLAY tickets and Ravens-themed scratch-offs for their second-chance prize opportunities.
Winnings headed toward home improvements
The winner said he plans to use the jackpot to pay for home repairs and upgrades while also paying off credit card debt.
Although he has yet to win a second-chance drawing for prizes such as Ravens season tickets or a Home Run Riches Contestant of the Game experience, he told lottery officials he intends to keep entering.
The High’s store that sold the winning ticket will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Maryland Lottery.
