AVALON, PA – A mid-day crash along a busy stretch of Ohio River Boulevard turned fatal Friday, leaving one man dead and a young child among the injured after two vehicles collided in Avalon, prompting a response from Allegheny County Police.
County 9-1-1 received the call at approximately 12:34 p.m., reporting a motor vehicle collision in the 1000 block of Ohio River Boulevard. First responders arrived to find two vehicles involved and three individuals impacted by the crash. All victims were transported to area hospitals as emergency crews worked to assess the scene.
Investigation underway by homicide unit
“The Allegheny County Police Department’s Homicide Unit responded to a request for assistance in Avalon,” the department said in a statement. “Detectives are initiating the investigation.”
Preliminary findings indicate that an adult male was driving one of the vehicles, while an adult female was operating the second vehicle with a four-year-old female passenger inside. The adult male was pronounced dead after being transported, while the woman and child were reported in stable condition.
“The adult male was pronounced deceased, while the adult female and four-year-old female were listed in stable condition,” the department confirmed.
Call for information from public
Authorities are urging anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has relevant information to come forward. “Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to call the County Police Tip Line 1-833-ALL-TIPS. Callers can remain anonymous,” the release stated.
