MONROE TOWNSHIP, N.J. – The Monroe Township Police Department in Gloucester County has named Sgt. Don Darcangelo its Officer of the Month for July, recognizing his work coordinating safety and logistics for major community events.
Darcangelo serves as Monroe Township’s Emergency Management Coordinator, putting him at the center of planning for events that can bring thousands of people into the community. Much of that work takes place before crowds arrive, from determining staffing needs to reviewing equipment and other resources.
“The success of these events does not happen by accident,” the department said in announcing the honor. Police credited Darcangelo with continually reviewing operations and finding ways to improve safety and efficiency.
Darcangelo Coordinates Safety at Major Township Events
Throughout the year, Darcangelo has helped prepare public safety operations for school graduations, the Music Festival, parades, Fourth of July fireworks, Melodies on Main, the township carnival and National Night Out.
His responsibilities include coordinating staffing, logistics, equipment and resources needed to safely manage large gatherings.
The department said that preparation has helped Monroe Township handle events attended by thousands of residents.
Darcangelo also looks for changes that can improve how officers and township personnel manage future events rather than simply repeating previous plans.
