Michael Barnes was found shot on Chesapeake Street just before midnight
WASHINGTON, DC — Gunfire erupted on Chesapeake Street late Tuesday night, leaving a 32-year-old Southeast DC man dead at the scene and police searching for information that could lead them to whoever was responsible.
The victim was identified as Michael Barnes of Southeast DC, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
The shooting happened in the 800 block of Chesapeake Street SE.
Seventh District officers responded at approximately 11:47 p.m. Tuesday after receiving a report of a shooting.
Barnes was found suffering from gunshot wounds when officers arrived.
DC Fire and EMS personnel responded but found no signs consistent with life and pronounced Barnes dead at the scene.
Police have not released information about what may have led to the shooting.
No arrest or suspect description was announced in Wednesday’s homicide update.
MPD is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for a homicide in the District.
