ROCKVILLE, Md. — Members of the Rockville City Police Department met with parents and community members at a Lakewood Elementary School PTA meeting Tuesday evening, with the discussion focused on school safety and communication.

Police thanked the Lakewood Elementary School PTA for inviting officers to attend the meeting.

The department said keeping schools safe requires cooperation among law enforcement, school employees, parents, students and other members of the community.

According to police, open communication and partnerships between families, schools and officers are important parts of addressing concerns and maintaining a safe environment for students.

The department did not identify any specific safety incident or threat that prompted the meeting. Instead, police described the gathering as an opportunity to share information and strengthen relationships with local families.
