NEW YORK, N.Y. – The NYPD is asking for the public’s help identifying a suspect accused of forcibly touching a 28-year-old woman inside the Rector Street subway station in Lower Manhattan.

The incident happened at approximately 1:15 p.m. Aug. 9 as the woman was walking down a stairwell, according to NYPD Crime Stoppers. Police said the unidentified individual approached her from behind and grabbed her over her clothing.

The incident occurred within the NYPD’s 1st Precinct and Transit District 2, according to police.

“The individual grabbed the victim’s buttocks and groin over her clothing and she confronted him,” NYPD Crime Stoppers said.

Police said the suspect then ran from the subway station and fled to an unknown location.

The NYPD has not announced an arrest in the case. The Crime Stoppers alert did not provide additional information about the circumstances leading up to the encounter.

Police are seeking information that could help detectives identify and locate the person involved.
