Troopers say Jaquell McDonald fled the wreck on foot and discarded more than 60 grams of cocaine before his arrest
MILTON, DE – A speeding Maserati tore across roads near Milton before crashing into an SUV Sunday afternoon, with its driver allegedly running from the wreck and ditching more than 60 grams of cocaine before Delaware State Police caught him.
Jaquell McDonald, 30, of Lincoln, was arrested following the pursuit and charged with multiple felony offenses, according to Delaware State Police.
The incident began at approximately 1:25 p.m. Sunday when a trooper spotted a Maserati Levante speeding northbound on Coastal Highway near Deep Branch Road.
Police said the trooper attempted a traffic stop, but the Maserati sped away.
During the ensuing pursuit, McDonald allegedly drove recklessly at high speeds along Coastal Highway and several surrounding roads.
The chase ended when the Maserati collided with a Nissan Rogue at Union Street Extended and Coastal Highway, police said.
Investigators allege McDonald then ran from the Maserati and was seen discarding approximately 60.76 grams of cocaine.
Troopers took him into custody without further incident.
A subsequent search of the Maserati uncovered approximately 46.75 grams of marijuana, $5,696 in suspected drug proceeds and what police described as fake Arizona and Nevada driver’s licenses.
The Nissan was occupied by a 65-year-old man and a 61-year-old woman from Pennsylvania. Both suffered minor injuries and declined transportation to a hospital, according to police.
McDonald was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries before being released into police custody.
He was taken to Delaware State Police Troop 7, arraigned by the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Department of Correction on $75,514 cash bond.
The roadway remained closed for an extended period while investigators processed and cleared the crash scene.
