Man Killed in Boat Explosion on the Bohemia River

MIDDLETOWN, MD – Police are investigating an explosion on a boat that killed a 69-year-old man Saturday night on the Bohemia River. A woman onboard was rescued by a passing personal watercraft operator. The deceased man was identified as Michael Steinmetz.

Firefighters from Charlestown, Chesapeake, and Hacks Point Fire Departments responded to the scene.

Now, investigators are asking any witnesses to come forward.

“The Maryland Natural Resources Police’s criminal investigators are asking for the public’s help in providing eyewitness details regarding a boat explosion that happened last night around 7:15pm on the Bohemia River in Cecil County,” the MNRP said.
