SYRACUSE, NY – Late Sunday night, the Syracuse Police Department responded to a stabbing incident reported in the 400 block of West Newell Street. The victim, identified as 16-year-old Shamek Bonner, was found at the scene with injuries consistent with a stabbing.
The Syracuse Police Department, Syracuse Fire Department, and AMR paramedics administered life-saving measures.
Bonner was transported to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
CID Homicide Unit detectives initiated an investigation and conducted interviews with multiple individuals, conducted a canvass of the neighborhood and the entire city, and executed several search warrants.
Police identified a suspect in the case. 18-year-old Richard Olschewske was located in the 2900 block of Erie Blvd East and taken into custody without any resistance.
Olschewske now faces charges of Manslaughter in the First Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree. He has been confined at the Onondaga County Justice Center.
