WESTFIELD, NJ – The Westfield Police Department confirmed today that they are investigating multiple reports of materials posted at the local train station that contained handwritten comments considered threatening to the Jewish community.
Chief David Battiloro announced that the incident is under review for criminal implications. The department follows a zero-tolerance policy for any form of bias and will refer identified suspects to the Union County Prosecutor’s Office for criminal complaint approval. Prosecution to the fullest extent of the law is intended for perpetrators.
Alongside this ongoing investigation, Chief Battiloro informed that he has met with members of the Westfield Ministry Association. The meeting aimed to prepare for a forthcoming prayer service for peace in Israel and Gaza, scheduled to take place at Saint Helen’s Church. The Chief reassured the community that officers are committed to ensuring the safety of all residents.
The police department also plans to maintain a highly visible presence at schools, houses of worship, public gatherings, and other areas in the community to reinforce security.
