Union county announces task force aimed at reducing car thefts and burglaries — Police lights

UNION COUNTY, NJ – Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel, in conjunction with the Union County Police Chiefs Association, has announced the formation of the Union County Municipal Task Force. This initiative is a strategic response to the recent uptick in motor vehicle thefts and burglaries across the county.

The task force, operational for several weeks, integrates the efforts of local police departments with the Union County Prosecutor’s Office (UCPO) Intelligence and Narcotics Division. This collaboration aims to pool resources and expertise to effectively tackle the surge in vehicle-related crimes.

Prosecutor Daniel emphasized the task force’s commitment to collaborative law enforcement and proactive crime prevention strategies. Utilizing real-time intelligence, the task force is designed to actively deter criminal activities and enhance the safety of Union County residents.

Comprising officers from various local police departments and members of the UCPO Intelligence and Narcotics Division, the task force leverages intelligence and data analysis to pinpoint and target high-crime areas. Focused primarily on motor vehicle thefts and burglaries, the team employs intelligence-driven patrols and surveillance operations.

UCPO Chief of Detectives Harvey Barnwell highlighted the initiative as a testament to the commitment to working closely with local law enforcement partners to protect communities across Union County.

The Union County Prosecutor’s Office plans to launch a catalytic converter marking program in collaboration with the National Insurance Crime Bureau. This initiative, aimed at curbing the rising incidents of converter thefts, will be accessible to all residents at various county locations.

In an effort to further reduce car thefts and burglaries, the Union County Prosecutor’s Office and the Union County Police Chiefs Associations are partnering with Union County Crime Stoppers. The Crime Stoppers program offers rewards of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and indictment of criminal offenders, with anonymity guaranteed for tipsters.
