ORLANDO, FL – A Brazilian family has filed a lawsuit against Universal Orlando, claiming negligence in a June 2022 incident where Juliana Asquino fell from a Dr. Seuss-themed ride, resulting in severe injuries. The lawsuit, filed in Florida state court, involves Juliana Asquino, her husband Rafael Asquino, and her daughter Giovana Asquino, all residents of Sao Paulo, Brazil.
The incident occurred at Universal’s Islands of Adventure on the “Caro-Seuss-el” ride, a merry-go-round with no minimum height requirement but requires adult supervision for children under 48 inches. The six-page complaint details that Juliana Asquino fell while dismounting from one of the ride’s creatures, leading to her physical injuries. The family is seeking at least $50,000 in compensatory damages.
The plaintiffs argue that the ride was negligently designed and allege that neither Universal staff nor signage adequately warned of the potential falling hazard. Universal’s online safety guide notes that riders should be able to step onto the carousel platform and mount the Seussian creature independently or with assistance. This lawsuit raises questions about the safety measures and warnings provided for theme park attractions, particularly those labeled as “kid-friendly.”
