Victims Displaced After Fire Damages Perth Amboy Apartment Building

PERTH AMBOY, NJ — On December 11, 2023, at 4:42 PM, the Perth Amboy Fire Department (PAFD) was dispatched to a reported smoke condition at 352 Keene Street. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered flames emanating from a first-floor apartment, with the fire extending to the second floor.

The command promptly transmitted a second alarm, and firefighters swiftly engaged the blaze using multiple hoselines. Their rapid response effectively contained and extinguished the fire. A thorough search of the premises confirmed that there were no civilian injuries.

However, the incident resulted in the displacement of 11 individuals. The City’s relocation officers and the Red Cross assisted those affected. Additionally, one firefighter sustained an injury during the response and received treatment at a local medical center.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the PAFD Fire Investigation Unit.
