ROXBURY, NJ – Morris County Prosecutor Robert Carroll, Chief of Detectives Robert McNally, and Roxbury Police Chief Dean Adone have confirmed an ongoing investigation into a fatal fire that occurred on the afternoon of Tuesday, in Roxbury.
The Roxbury Police and Fire Departments received reports of a fire at a residence on Mooney Road in the Ledgewood section of Roxbury.
First responders arriving at the scene found a 71-year-old man who had escaped the fire. He was immediately transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of serious injuries sustained in the fire.
The fire was battled by multiple fire departments, including Roxbury, Mount Olive, and several others. During their efforts, a 98-year-old woman was found deceased inside the residence. The Morris County Medical Examiner’s Office is conducting a post-mortem examination.
The house suffered significant damage, resulting in partial collapse and being declared uninhabitable. The Roxbury Police Department, along with the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes and Arson/Environmental Crimes units, are investigating the incident.
