West Earl Township Police have joined a statewide enforcement campaign that will put aggressive drivers under increased scrutiny through mid-August.
LANCASTER, PA — Drivers in Lancaster County can expect increased traffic enforcement over the next several weeks as West Earl Township Police join a statewide campaign targeting aggressive driving violations.
The West Earl Township Police Department announced it is participating in Pennsylvania’s Aggressive Driving Enforcement Initiative, which began Sunday, July 6, and runs through Sunday, Aug. 16.
According to the department, West Earl Township officers are joining the Pennsylvania State Police and approximately 300 municipal law enforcement agencies across the Commonwealth in the enforcement effort.
The campaign is designed to reduce crashes, injuries, and traffic deaths linked to aggressive driving. Police said motorists stopped for aggressive driving violations can expect to receive a traffic citation.
Officers will focus enforcement on speeding, tailgating, red-light violations, heavy truck violations, and pedestrian safety. Police also said drivers traveling too fast for road conditions, following other vehicles too closely, or engaging in other aggressive driving behaviors may be cited.
The initiative is part of Pennsylvania’s Highway Safety Program and is funded in part through PennDOT’s investment of federal funding from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
