Police swarm deadly shooting scene after gunfire erupts near busy Akron intersection

AKRON, Ohio — A man was killed and a woman wounded after gunfire erupted Thursday night near an Akron intersection, leaving investigators searching for whoever opened fire.

Akron police officers responded around 7:19 p.m. Thursday to the intersection of Marcy Street and Cole Avenue after receiving multiple reports of a shooting, according to the Akron Police Department.

When officers arrived, they found a 40-year-old man unresponsive in the driver’s seat of a Jeep Latitude.

Police said the victim had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second victim, a 36-year-old woman, was found nearby suffering from a gunshot wound to the hip.

Officers provided emergency aid before Akron Fire Department paramedics transported the woman to a local hospital.

Authorities said her injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.

Detectives from the Akron Police Department Major Crimes Unit and Crime Scene Unit responded to process evidence and continue the investigation.

Police have not released the identity of the deceased victim or announced any arrests.
