Six-time felon busted in Delaware drug sweep as cops nab trio during street deal

Police say suspects were caught actively selling narcotics during multi-week investigation in Middletown

MIDDLETOWN, Del. — A multi-week drug investigation in Middletown ended with three men in custody after police said they were caught actively involved in narcotics sales during a street operation Thursday.

The Middletown Police Department announced the arrests following an investigation conducted alongside the Kent County Governor’s Task Force and the Kent County Drug Unit.

Authorities identified the primary suspect as Leroy Berry, 38, of Middletown, who police described as a six-time convicted felon.

Investigators said officers encountered Berry near East Lake Street and North Cox Street on Thursday along with Keenany Brady, 39, and Reginald Lacewell, 53, both of Middletown.

Police said all three men were actively involved in the sale of narcotics at the time of their arrests.

During the investigation, officers seized approximately 4 grams of crack cocaine along with prescription medications.

Berry and Lacewell were both charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, conspiracy in the second degree and possession of a controlled substance.

Brady faces additional weapons-related charges, including carrying a concealed deadly weapon and possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited. He was also charged with possession of a prescription drug without a prescription.

Lacewell and Brady were arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 3 and released on unsecured bond.
