Anti-Semitic Graffiti in New Rochelle Shopping Center Triggers Police Investigation

New Rochelle, NY – The New Rochelle Police Department, in collaboration with the district attorney’s office, is investigating the appearance of anti-Semitic graffiti at the Golden Horseshoe Shopping Center. The offensive markings were discovered this morning, sparking concern and action from local authorities.

In a statement, the New Rochelle Police Department expressed understanding of the unsettling and fearful atmosphere such incidents create in communities. Reaffirming their commitment to public safety, they emphasized that the protection of residents and businesses remains their top priority.

“We are deeply saddened and disturbed by the recent acts of antisemitism targeting two of our city’s storefronts. New Rochelle is built on the values of diversity, inclusion, and mutual respect. Hate crimes like the vandalization of Cheryl’s Closet and Scoop Shop have no place in our community and we vehemently condemn this behavior. We stand by our Jewish citizens and will not tolerate these types of attack,” the city said in a statement released on Friday. “Upon the discovery and reporting of these incidents by the New Rochelle Police Department, we have swiftly taken action. The City of New Rochelle and its police department is working in collaboration with law enforcement agencies, including the Westchester County District Attorney, and the Scarsdale Police Department. Our commitment to supporting their efforts in investigating this incident remains steadfast. Property security inspections for local business and synagogues have been conducted and are underway. We plan to monitor the situation closely and inform all residents of any updates.”

The department and the district attorney’s office have conveyed a stance of zero tolerance towards hatred and bias in Westchester County. Authorities are determined to use the full extent of the law to bring those responsible for this act of hate to justice and to maintain the security and harmony of the community.

This incident has not only caused distress in the local community but also highlights the ongoing challenges in combating hate crimes and prejudice. The New Rochelle Police Department is urging anyone with information related to this incident to come forward.
