Teen arrested after armed robbery attempt during scooter sale in Northeast DC

Washington, DC — A 17-year-old was arrested Sunday after allegedly attempting to steal a scooter at gunpoint during a meet-up in Northeast, prompting a rapid police response that ended with one suspect in custody.

The incident occurred around 4:18 p.m. on the 200 block of 20th Street NE, where the victim had arranged to sell a scooter. During the meeting, two suspects reportedly approached the seller, pulled out handguns, and demanded the scooter keys. The victim fled the scene without surrendering the vehicle, and responding officers quickly canvassed the area.

One suspect — a juvenile male from Northwest — was apprehended shortly after and charged with Armed Robbery (Gun). The identity of the second suspect has not been released, and it is unclear if additional arrests are expected.

The Metropolitan Police Department has not disclosed whether the firearm was recovered or if the suspects and victim had prior contact. The victim was not injured during the incident.

Investigators continue to seek additional information and remind the public that tips leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for violent crimes in DC may be eligible for a reward of up to $10,000.
