Man charged after gunfire leaves victim fighting for life in Baltimore

BALTIMORE, Md. — A Baltimore man accused in a shooting that left one victim critically wounded and another injured has been arrested weeks after detectives launched an attempted murder investigation in the city’s Eastern District.

Baltimore police said 41-year-old Derrick Davis Jr. was arrested May 12 by Warrant Apprehension detectives at a home in the 4300 block of Roberton Avenue.

Authorities said Davis was wanted in connection with a shooting that happened April 2 in the 2000 block of East Hoffman Street.

Police said officers initially responded around 8:27 p.m. after a ShotSpotter alert detected gunfire in the area.

When officers arrived, investigators learned two victims had already left the scene and transported themselves to a nearby hospital for treatment.

At the hospital, officers found a 29-year-old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and a 35-year-old woman with a graze wound.

Police said the male victim remains listed in critical condition.

Following the investigation, detectives identified Davis as the suspect in the shooting.

He was transported to the Central Booking Intake Facility and charged with Attempted First Degree Murder.

Police did not release a possible motive for the shooting.
