BROOKLYN, N.Y. – A Bedford-Stuyvesant man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for the deadly stabbing of a neighbor in an attack prosecutors described as a calculated ambush inside the Tompkins Houses.
Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced Thursday that Marquis Shiloh, 35, was sentenced by Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Donald Leo to 25 years behind bars and five years of post-release supervision. A jury convicted him of first-degree manslaughter in July.
Prosecutors said the attack happened on July 12, 2023, when 26-year-old Stephon Sinclair took the elevator down to the lobby of 760 Park Avenue. Shiloh was waiting, and when Sinclair stepped out, Shiloh punched him. As Sinclair tried to retreat from the building, Shiloh and a co-defendant pursued him outside. Shiloh pulled a knife and stabbed Sinclair twice in the legs, severing an artery and vein.
Sinclair collapsed nearby and was rushed to Kings County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Shiloh fled the scene but was arrested on August 2, 2023, following an NYPD investigation led by the 79th Precinct and Brooklyn North Homicide Squad.
The co-defendant, who assisted Shiloh by striking Sinclair during the assault, pleaded guilty in July to third-degree assault. She was sentenced in August to a conditional discharge.
