Packages were scattered across a Back Street alley as officers closed in on a suspect accused of trailing a delivery truck and taking items moments after they were dropped off.
Boston, MA – Officers responding to a reported theft in progress Tuesday evening moved quickly through the South End after receiving calls about a man allegedly following a UPS truck and taking packages shortly after delivery. The incident unfolded around 5:25 p.m. near 369 Beacon Street, prompting a coordinated search in the surrounding blocks.
Police said a description of the suspect was broadcast to responding units after witnesses reported the activity. “A suspect was seen following a UPS truck and stealing the packages after delivery,” officers stated in the report.
Officers canvassed nearby streets and located the individual behind 412 Back Street, where the situation escalated from suspicion to evidence.
Packages recovered in alley
According to police, officers found “multiple open packages and bags that were scattered around” in the area where the suspect was located. The condition of the items indicated they had been recently opened, and at least one package was identified and returned to its rightful owner at the scene.
The suspect, identified as Jose Denier, 33, of Weymouth, was taken into custody without further incident. Police confirmed that Denier is expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court on a charge of larceny theft from a building.
The investigation remains limited to the reported incident, and no additional suspects have been identified.
