Suspect arrested in Northwest burglary spree tied to garage and business break ins
Washington, DC – A string of nighttime break-ins across Northwest Washington that left a garage damaged and a business register emptied has now been tied to a single suspect taken into custody following a court-authorized arrest.
The incidents unfolded over two consecutive nights in Northwest. On Thursday evening at approximately 8:13 p.m., a suspect forcibly entered a garage in the 2200 block of California Street, Northwest, where property was taken before the suspect fled the scene. That case was documented under CCN 24141337.
Hours later, during the early morning hours of Friday at approximately 3:29 a.m., the same suspect is accused of breaking into an establishment in the 2700 block of P Street, Northwest. Investigators say money was taken from a cash register before the suspect again fled. That incident was recorded under CCN 24141164.
Following an investigation, an arrest was made Tuesday. Acting on a DC Superior Court arrest warrant, officers charged 64-year-old Bernard Wood, who has no fixed address, with Burglary Two, Destruction of Property, and Theft Two in connection with the two incidents.
Police say the case brings resolution to a series of property crimes that disrupted multiple Northwest blocks and left business owners dealing with damage and losses.
