Police seek suspect accused of groping woman on Brooklyn sidewalk

BROOKLYN, NY — Police are searching for a suspect accused of approaching a woman from behind on a Brooklyn sidewalk and forcibly touching her before running from the area in broad daylight.

The incident happened Monday, April 20, around 2:50 p.m. outside 710 Coney Island Avenue, according to NYPD Crime Stoppers.

Investigators said a 23-year-old woman was walking along the street when an unidentified man suddenly approached her from behind.

Police said the suspect slapped the victim’s buttocks over her clothing with an open hand before fleeing the scene on foot.

Authorities said the suspect ran southbound on Coney Island Avenue and disappeared before officers arrived.

The victim was not reported seriously injured.

Detectives are continuing efforts to identify the suspect and gather surveillance footage from nearby businesses and buildings.
