TOMS RIVER, NJ – Despite recent warnings by Toms River Township Councilman David Ciccozi regarding a decrease in new applications before the town planning and zoning boards, the township reported a significant increase in building permit revenue in 2023.

In 2022, the township collected $1.78 million in building permits through June. This year, the town has collected $1.97 million in new building permit fees.

That rise amounts to a nearly 11% increase over the same period last year.

The building is booming in the northern section of town as new high-density developments and commercial plazas on the town’s northern border, approved by the Hill administration, are coming to fruition.

Commercial projects are sprouting up all along the northern Route 9 corridor.

In June, the township collected $314,998 compared to $253,069 a year ago.
