ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Two deputies from the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office attended the 21st annual Maryland Remembers Ceremony on Monday to honor the lives lost in preventable traffic crashes across the state. The event was hosted by the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) Motor Vehicle Administration’s Highway Safety Office.
Deputy R. Contic and Deputy First Class A. Dymond represented Calvert County at the ceremony, held in Annapolis, which remembered the more than 600 lives lost on Maryland roads in 2023. The solemn gathering emphasized the continued commitment of state and local agencies to reduce traffic deaths through education, enforcement, and advocacy.
Since 2020, over 2,300 people have been killed in crashes across Maryland, according to MDOT. The ceremony aimed to raise awareness of the need for safer driving practices while paying tribute to victims of roadway incidents.
The Maryland Remembers initiative is part of MDOT’s broader “Zero Deaths Maryland” campaign, which seeks to eliminate traffic-related fatalities through collaborative efforts and public safety measures. MDOT encourages the public to follow its safety initiatives on platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and X/Twitter.
State and local leaders reaffirmed their dedication to improving roadway safety and supporting families affected by these tragedies.
