Calvert deputies respond to over 2,200 calls as thefts, shootings reported

CALVERT COUNTY, MD – More than 2,200 calls for service kept Calvert County Sheriff’s Office deputies busy over a seven-day span, as investigators worked a series of thefts, property damage cases, and multiple DUI arrests across the county. The incidents, logged between March 16 and March 22, included a reported rifle round fired into a home and coordinated thefts involving high-value electronics deliveries.

During the reporting period, deputies handled 2,224 calls, including 359 traffic stops, 1,026 patrol and school checks, 72 welfare and mental health calls, and 28 motor vehicle crashes, according to the agency’s weekly police blotter.

Property damage incidents under investigation

One of the more serious cases occurred in St. Leonard, where a home was struck by gunfire. “The complainant advised that sometime between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on March 20, an unknown individual fired a bullet through the front window of the residence,” deputies reported. Investigators found damage consistent with a rifle round, noting, “The size of the hole and the number of items penetrated are consistent with a rifle round.” No injuries were reported, and damage was estimated at $400.

In Lusby, a separate property damage case involved a BB gun. “The complainant advised that an unknown individual had fired a BB gun at the front windows of the residence,” deputies said, adding that “a small brass BB” was found lodged between windowpanes. Damage in that case was estimated between $300 and $500.

Retail thefts and package cases draw attention

Several theft investigations remain open, including a liquor store theft in Prince Frederick. “An unidentified male entered the establishment, took a bottle of D’Ussé Cognac and a bottle of Casamigos, and left the store without making payment,” according to the report. The stolen items were valued at $63.

At a Dunkirk grocery store, deputies described a more elaborate theft. “The suspect then filled the box with various meats, including six packages of Beef Top Round, six London Broils, and twelve Salmon Fillets, totaling $889.31,” officials said. The suspect fled in a gold Hyundai after “yelled profanities at a store associate while exiting.”

Investigators are also examining two incidents involving missing iPhone 17 deliveries. “The complainant reported that an iPhone 17 had been delivered via FedEx; however, when the package was opened, it was found to be empty,” deputies stated. A second case the same day in Owings involved similar circumstances, with both phones valued at more than $2,700 combined.

Two Lusby men were arrested following a theft at Walmart in Prince Frederick. Deputies reported finding stolen NFL cards and drug paraphernalia. “Deputies also observed a rolled dollar bill covered in a white powdery substance,” and “Robert advised that the substance was heroin and fentanyl.” Both suspects were taken to the Calvert County Detention Center and charged.
