CAMBRIDGE, Md. – A 36-year-old Cambridge man is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly assaulting another person and pointing a handgun at them during a confrontation on January 27, according to a Cambridge Police Department press release.
Officers were dispatched around 7:55 p.m. to the 2300 block of Hudson Road for a report of an assault involving a firearm. Upon arrival, they spoke with the victim, who told police that Jamel Levine Newman had grabbed them by the neck, thrown them to the ground, and held them down while pointing a handgun at them.
Police quickly located Newman at another apartment within the same complex and took him into custody without incident. During a search, officers recovered a loaded 9mm SAR handgun containing 12 rounds of ammunition. A shotgun and additional ammunition for both weapons were found inside the residence. Investigators noted that neither firearm was secured and that both were accessible to a 9-year-old child living in the home. All firearms and ammunition were seized.
Newman was transported to Cambridge Police headquarters for processing before being turned over to the Dorchester County Department of Corrections, where he was held without bond.

Newman has been charged with first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, assault weapon magazine use, and firearm access by minors. Police said the investigation remains active.
