Camden City Man Sentenced to 55 Years for Murdering Philadelphia Man

Philadephia, Pennsylvania – A 21-year-old Camden City man, Antony Shields, is facing 55 years in New Jersey State Prison for the murder of a Philadelphia man. According to Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay, Shields received his sentence on Friday. Under the terms of the sentence, Shields is required to serve 85 percent of the term before being eligible for parole. The prosecution’s case revealed that Shields was convicted by a jury on January 30 of first-degree Felony Murder, first-degree Aggravated Manslaughter, and second-degree Conspiracy to Commit Robbery, all related to the death of 21-year-old Alex Fernandez.

Camden County Police Department and the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office swiftly responded to a shooting incident on February 4, 2021, in the 1700 block of South 7th Street in Camden. Tragically, Alex Fernandez was the victim of the incident. Following the shooting, Fernandez was rushed to Cooper University Hospital. However, medical staff, unfortunately, pronounced him dead not long after his arrival. The cause of his death was determined to be due to multiple gunshot wounds sustained during the event.

Antony Shields’s sentencing is the result of a thorough investigation by local law enforcement in conjunction with the court proceedings. Shields’ involvement in the aforementioned felonies that led to the untimely passing of Alex Fernandez has resulted in a substantial prison term reflecting the severity of his crimes. The community in Camden continues to seek justice and safety in the wake of such violence, and this sentence is part of the ongoing effort to uphold law and order within the vicinity.
