WASHINGTON, D.C. — A daytime home break-in quickly unraveled after surveillance cameras helped police track down and arrest the suspect days later.

The burglary happened around 12:39 p.m. on March 13 in the 3600 block of 16th Street Northwest.

A suspect forced entry into an unoccupied home by damaging a door lock before going inside and taking multiple items.

The individual fled the scene, but nearby security cameras captured clear images.

A detective later spotted someone matching the description, leading to a coordinated response by officers.

The suspect was taken into custody without incident.

Police identified him as 59-year-old Donnell Washington of Northwest D.C.

He is now charged with second-degree burglary and destruction of property.
