CECIL COUNTY, MD — A North East resident, Christopher J. Shivery, 41, has been arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including attempted murder, following a firebombing incident in March. The attack involved a homemade incendiary device, commonly known as a Molotov cocktail, which was hurled at a residence on Old Philadelphia Road.

The incident occurred just before 10:00 p.m. on March 2, 2024. Occupants of the home noticed a sudden flash outside their window and subsequently discovered flames near the building. They managed to extinguish the fire quickly and found remnants of the Molotov cocktail.

Deputy State Fire Marshals led the investigation and identified Shivery as the primary suspect. The investigation revealed that the fire caused an estimated $500 in damages.

Shivery was apprehended early this morning by the Maryland State Police Apprehension Team, with assistance from troopers and K9 units from the North East Barrack. He faces serious charges including two counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of attempted second-degree murder, first and second-degree arson, two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault, and charges related to the creation and possession of a destructive device.

Acting State Fire Marshal Jason M. Mowbray commended the investigative team for their dedication to the case, expressing hope that the arrest would bring some peace of mind to the affected family. The case continues to develop as legal proceedings are underway.
