Pennsylvania Lottery retailer scores $10K bonus after selling jackpot scratch off

BETHEL TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Someone in Berks County could be holding a ticket worth a lifetime of monthly payments after a Pennsylvania Lottery retailer sold a top-prize-winning $10,000 a Month for Life Scratch-Off ticket.

The Pennsylvania Lottery announced Friday that a winning $10,000 a Month for Life Scratch-Off was sold at Star Gas & Diesel, located at 8558 Lancaster Avenue in Bethel Township.

The retailer will receive a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

Lottery officials have not identified the winner, and prizes must be claimed and validated before the winner becomes known.

The $10,000 a Month for Life game is a $5 Scratch-Off ticket that offers players a top prize of $10,000 per month for life or a one-time cash option of $1.6 million, less applicable withholding.

Lottery officials reminded players that winning Scratch-Off tickets should be signed immediately and that prizes expire one year after the game’s official end-sale date posted on the Pennsylvania Lottery website.

Winners are encouraged to contact the Pennsylvania Lottery at 1-800-692-7481 to begin the claims process.

The Pennsylvania Lottery noted that Scratch-Off tickets are distributed randomly, meaning neither the Lottery nor retailers know where winning tickets will be sold before they are purchased.

Officials said they only learn where a winning ticket was sold after a prize has been claimed.

All Pennsylvania Lottery prizes exceeding $5,000 are subject to applicable tax withholding.

As of Friday, the winning ticket holder had not publicly come forward.
