Chesapeake police investigate early morning shooting on Indian River Road

A man was found with multiple gunshot wounds after a shooting early Saturday morning, prompting a continuing investigation along a busy Chesapeake corridor.

CHESAPEAKE, VA – Chesapeake police responded just after 4 a.m. Saturday to reports of an injured person in the 4000 block of Indian River Road, where officers located an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Police said officers provided life-saving aid until medics arrived, and the victim was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The department later clarified the timing of the incident, stating, “CORRECTION- DATE OF INCIDENT IS APRIL 18TH, 2026,” in an updated release.

Active investigation at scene

Officers and detectives remained at the scene for hours as they worked to gather evidence and determine what led to the shooting. “Chesapeake Police are investigating a shooting that occurred Saturday morning in the 4000 block of Indian River Road,” the department said in its statement.

Authorities have not released information about a suspect or a possible motive. The condition of the victim has not been disclosed.

Call for public assistance

The department added that callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward. “Callers are never asked to give their names or required to testify in court.
