A forgotten set of numbers that had never paid off finally delivered a winning Ohio Lottery ticket after one more try.
CLEVELAND, Ohio — A Cleveland man who had given up on a set of lottery numbers found an old ticket in his car’s glove compartment and decided to play the same numbers one last time, a decision that led to a winning Pick 5 prize.
The player told the Ohio Lottery that he had regularly used the same numbers but eventually stopped after they failed to produce a winning ticket.
One of his old tickets remained in the glove compartment of his car and was forgotten until he recently came across it again.
After rediscovering the ticket, he decided to replay the numbers on Friday, May 8. The evening Pick 5 drawing produced the winning combination of 3-2-5-5-8.
His 50-cent wager won a $25,000 prize, and a 60-way backup added another $417, bringing his total winnings to $25,417.
The winner said he could not believe he had won.
After mandatory state and federal taxes of 26.75%, he will receive $18,617.95.
The winning ticket was purchased at Mike’s Convenient Food Mart, located at 1929 S. Taylor Road in Cleveland.
Pick 5 drawings are held daily at 12:29 p.m. and 7:29 p.m. across Ohio. Saturday evening drawings are conducted during the Cash Explosion television program.
The Ohio Lottery has contributed more than $34 billion to education since 1974.
