Commuter Alert: North Jersey Traffic Slowed Due to Crashes in Newark and Jersey City

Newark, NJ — As of 8:08 a.m., commuters in New Jersey are experiencing multiple delays due to heavy traffic volumes and incidents across key routes:

In West Windsor Township, northbound US 1 near Harrison Street is facing delays with all lanes open. Delays are attributed to high traffic volume.

On the New Jersey Turnpike, both inner and outer roadways are congested from Interchange 14 to just south of Interchange 14 in Newark, affecting exits 14A through 14C due to traffic volume. Additionally, the eastern spur of the Turnpike in Newark near Interchange 15E is also delayed up to a mile and a half due to similar congestion.

The I-280 westbound route from the Stickel Drawbridge in Harrison to exit 15 in Newark has delays with a reported travel time of less than five minutes. Further west, NJ 55 is experiencing volume delays in both directions near Deptford Township.

In Jersey City, the Holland Tunnel is experiencing eastbound delays at the Toll Plaza, with travel times currently at 35 minutes to the New York side. Similarly, the Lincoln Tunnel has eastbound delays at both the center and south tunnels in Weehawken Township, with travel times of 40 minutes from the New Jersey Turnpike’s Exit 16E.

The George Washington Bridge is also congested on both its upper and lower levels on the New Jersey side in Fort Lee. The lower level has delays of approximately 35 minutes, while the upper level travel time is 45 minutes.

Motorists are advised to stay informed of updates and consider alternate routes where possible.
