Cops blitz Ocean County roads in crackdown on fatal crashes

Ocean County launches ‘Goal: Zero’ traffic crackdown to combat deadly crash surge

BRICK TOWNSHIP, NJ – Law enforcement agencies across Ocean County will deploy a coordinated high-visibility traffic safety detail this Wednesday as part of the Goal: Zero initiative, aimed at reducing fatal crashes amid a sharp rise in traffic deaths across New Jersey.

From 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on November 26, officers will concentrate patrol efforts along major Jersey Shore corridors including Route 70 and Route 88. The enforcement detail is part of a broader campaign launched in response to sobering statistics: as of August 22, 355 people had died on New Jersey roads this year, with 38 of those deaths occurring in Ocean County alone.

“Every life lost on our roads represents someone’s family, friend, or neighbor,” said Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer. “This enforcement effort is about protecting our community and ensuring that everyone gets home safely.”

The Goal: Zero initiative will continue through monthly enforcement actions held on the last Thursday of each month from March through September. The campaign originated in 2024, spearheaded by Holmdel Township Patrolman Matt Menosky, who helped unite 36 municipalities in a shared effort to target speeding, distracted driving, and other dangerous roadway behaviors.

The bright green logo of the initiative symbolizes pedestrian and school zone safety, while the black bar across it represents a mourning band for lives lost in traffic crashes.
