ALBANY, NEW YORK — Brian Mills, 39, a former corrections officer from Dannemora, New York, pled guilty on Monday to knowingly providing a firearm to a felon, according to a statement from U.S. Attorney Carla B. Freedman. The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Plattsburgh Police Department.
Mills admitted to supplying multiple firearms and other items to Dustin J. Manor, a convicted felon, during the summer of 2022. The transactions took place at Manor’s apartment in Plattsburgh, New York. Items exchanged included a .410-gauge shotgun, an Armalite rifle, ammunition, an ammunition magazine, and two body armor vests.
Manor was legally barred from possessing firearms due to his 2014 felony drug convictions, for which he served five years in state prison. On October 20, 2022, Plattsburgh police officers seized the shotgun, ammunition, and tactical body armor from Manor’s residence after responding to a domestic incident.
Following his arrest, Mills resigned from his position at the Clinton Correctional Facility. He is scheduled for sentencing on December 19, 2024, and could face up to 15 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and up to three years of supervised release.
Senior United States District Judge Lawrence E. Kahn sentenced Manor on Monday to 57 months in prison and three years of supervised release for possessing the firearm and ammunition.
