Cumberland man arrested on probation violation tied to theft conviction

Police say local suspect was taken into custody on bench warrant Thursday

CUMBERLAND, Md. — Cumberland police arrested a local man Thursday after serving a bench warrant tied to an alleged probation violation connected to a previous theft conviction.

Authorities identified the suspect as 38-year-old Michael Anthony Butler Jr. of Cumberland.

According to police, Butler had been on probation following a theft conviction involving less than $100.

Officers transported Butler to the Allegany County Detention Center for central booking.
