Five individuals were arrested in Cumberland on Monday in connection with trespassing, assault, probation violations, and nuisance-related offenses, according to police.
Cumberland, MD – Cumberland Police officers made several arrests Monday following unrelated incidents throughout the city, including domestic assault investigations, a probation violation warrant, and trespassing complaints. The arrests stemmed from incidents reported on Liberty Street, Boone Street, Columbia Street, and along the canal tow path.
Key Points
• Five Cumberland residents were arrested in separate incidents on Monday.
• Two individuals were charged with second-degree assault following domestic violence investigations.
• Police also made arrests involving trespassing, probation violations, and nuisance ordinance offenses.
Police first responded to a building in the Liberty Street area for a reported trespassing complaint. Officers said they found Kelley Elizabeth Gillen, 38, inside the structure crawling on the ground and determined she had previously been served with a trespass notice prohibiting her from entering the property.
Gillen was arrested and transported to police headquarters before being released on a criminal citation pending trial in Allegany County District Court.
Multiple arrests made throughout the day
While patrolling the canal tow path, officers encountered Eric Roger Marmaduke, 56, asleep at a campsite. Police issued him a civil citation for a nuisance violation and instructed him to clean the area and leave.
When officers returned later, they found Marmaduke still at the location with his belongings. He was arrested and later released on a criminal citation pending trial on two counts of setting up bedding with the intent to sleep.
In a separate case, officers served a bench warrant on Tyler Leon Patterson, 23, after authorities said he violated conditions of his probation and failed to appear for a scheduled court hearing last week.
Domestic assault investigations lead to charges
Patterson was transported to the Allegany County Detention Center, where he was being held on a $5,000 bond pending court proceedings. The underlying probation matter was related to a second-degree assault case.
Officers also responded to a residence in the 400 block of Columbia Street after receiving a report of a domestic assault. Following an investigation, police arrested Katlyn Elizabeth Brooks, 29, and charged her with second-degree assault.
Later that day, officers were called to a residence on Boone Street for another reported domestic assault. After interviewing those involved, police arrested Dion Anthony Alves, 54, on a charge of second-degree assault.
Court appearances pending
Brooks and Alves were both transported to the Allegany County Detention Center, where they awaited initial appearances before a District Court Commissioner.
