Cumberland woman crashes into parked cars then assaults officer in DUI arrest

Frostburg woman crashes, fights cops, and lands in jail after late-night DUI wreck.

CUMBERLAND, Md. — A Frostburg woman is facing multiple charges after allegedly crashing her vehicle into two parked cars and assaulting a police officer during a DUI-related arrest late Wednesday night.

Officers from the Cumberland Police Department responded around 10:29 p.m. on April 16 to the 1500 block of E. Oldtown Road after receiving reports of a vehicle striking multiple parked cars and attempting to flee the scene.

When officers arrived, they located the driver, identified as 40-year-old Dawn Marie Fishel, still at the scene. Authorities say Fishel refused to exit her vehicle when asked and became combative. As officers attempted to remove her from the car, Fishel allegedly assaulted one of them.

She was taken into custody and transported to police headquarters. A subsequent investigation determined that Fishel was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.

Fishel was then transported to Central Booking and is being held pending an appearance before a court commissioner.

Multiple charges filed

Fishel is charged with Obstructing and Hindering, Second-Degree Assault, Resisting Arrest, DUI-related offenses, and a number of traffic violations connected to the collisions and her alleged attempt to leave the scene.
