DC detectives solve shooting investigation after yearlong probe

Maryland man arrested more than a year after Northwest DC shooting left 2 wounded

WASHINGTON, DC — More than a year after gunfire erupted on a Northwest Washington street and left two men wounded inside a parked vehicle, detectives have arrested a Maryland man in connection with the shooting, police said Tuesday.

The shooting happened on April 5, 2025, around 6:40 a.m. near the 800 block of T Street Northwest, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

Investigators said the two adult victims were sitting inside a parked vehicle when two suspects approached and opened fire.

Both men suffered gunshot wounds but survived the attack.

Police said the victims transported themselves to a local hospital for treatment of injuries described as non-life-threatening.

After the shooting, the suspects fled the scene in a vehicle before officers arrived.

Following what MPD described as an extensive investigation, detectives identified one of the suspects involved in the shooting.

On Monday, May 11, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 24-year-old Jamarie Tayquan Long of Hyattsville, Maryland, on a DC Superior Court warrant.

Long was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during a crime of violence.

Authorities said the investigation remains active as detectives continue working to identify additional suspects connected to the case.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Metropolitan Police at 202-727-9099 or text anonymous tips to the department’s TEXT TIP LINE at 50411.

MPD said a reward of up to $10,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.
