DC man’s death ruled homicide after investigators trace fatal injuries to Northeast home

A 35-year-old man died days after being found unconscious as a homicide investigation now focuses on a Northeast residence

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A man found unconscious with severe injuries along East Capitol Street in Northeast DC died days later at a hospital, and investigators have since determined the fatal assault occurred at a nearby residence, launching a homicide investigation.

The Metropolitan Police Department identified the victim as 35-year-old Dalonte Lamont Jackson of DC

According to police, officers responded at approximately 4:33 p.m. on Sunday, May 24, to the 3300 block of East Capitol Street Northeast after receiving a report of an unconscious person.

When officers arrived, they found Jackson unconscious but breathing and suffering from severe injuries. D.C. Fire and EMS transported him to a local hospital, where he remained under medical care.

Jackson died from his injuries on Friday, May 29, despite lifesaving efforts.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy and, on Wednesday, determined the cause of death was multiple blunt force injuries. The manner of death was ruled a homicide.

Detectives later established that the assault took place at a residence in the 3600 block of Jay Street Northeast, according to police.

No arrests have been announced.

Police said a reward of up to $25,000 is available for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
