Three vehicle crash in Laurel leaves woman dead after weekend collision

Laurel, DE – A busy Sussex Highway intersection turned deadly over the weekend when a three vehicle collision left one woman dead and several others injured, prompting an ongoing state police reconstruction investigation.

The crash occurred Saturday evening around 6:25 p.m. at the intersection of Sussex Highway and Mount Zion Road. Investigators said a Chevrolet Silverado traveling westbound attempted to cross Sussex Highway and entered the path of a southbound Infiniti QX60, triggering a violent chain reaction.

The Infiniti struck the passenger side of the Chevrolet, and a Ford Escape traveling behind the Infiniti crashed into its rear moments later.

A passenger seated in the third row of the Infiniti, 43-year-old Latisha Horsey of Milford, suffered life threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital. She later died from her injuries Sunday, according to investigators.

The driver of the Infiniti, a 38-year-old woman from Scott Air Force Base in Illinois, along with three male passengers from Arizona, Delaware, and Texas, were taken to hospitals with injuries described as non life threatening. The driver of the Ford Escape, a 60-year-old man from Laurel, was also hospitalized with non life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Chevrolet, a 39-year-old man from Millsboro, and two child passengers were not injured.

The Delaware State Police Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash and is seeking witnesses or additional information.
