Double shooting in Southeast DC leaves one dead and one injured

A 30-year-old Virginia man was found fatally shot in a parking lot as investigators search for answers in a double shooting

WASHINGTON, D.C. — A man from Virginia was killed and another person was wounded after gunfire erupted early Sunday morning in Southeast Washington, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

Officers responded at approximately 3:21 a.m. Sunday to the 5300 block of E Street Southeast following reports of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they discovered an adult male in a parking lot unconscious and not breathing. Police said the victim was suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

D.C. Fire and EMS personnel responded to the scene and pronounced the man dead.

Authorities later identified the victim as 30-year-old Andre Herndon of Alexandria, Virginia.

During an immediate search of the area, officers located a second adult male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

The second victim was transported to a local hospital with injuries that police described as non-life-threatening.

Investigators have not released information regarding a suspect or a possible motive.

The Metropolitan Police Department’s homicide unit is leading the investigation.

Police are offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the homicide.
