Downtown Harrisburg shop sells million dollar jackpot

Pennsylvania Lottery presents million dollar check to Dauphin County winner

Harrisburg, PA – A routine stop at a downtown Harrisburg shop turned into a life-changing moment as Pennsylvania Lottery officials presented a commemorative check to a Dauphin County man who scratched his way to a $1 million prize.

The presentation was held Wednesday at Cue-Nique, located at 505 Strawberry Square, where the winning Merry Money Match Scratch-Off ticket was sold. The retailer will receive a $5,000 bonus for selling the top-prize ticket.

The winner, Chris Moppin of Dauphin County, is a lifelong Harrisburg resident and a longtime employee of the Harrisburg Senators. Moppin has worked for the Minor League Baseball team since 1987 and currently serves as clubhouse manager.

Moppin said he initially struggled to comprehend the numbers after scratching the ticket and rechecked it several times at home before realizing it was the $1 million winner. When he shared the news with his family, including his five children, he said they were skeptical at first.

The 59-year-old said he plans to use the winnings to take his five grandchildren on a trip to Disney World and begin planning for retirement within the next two years. The prize, he said, provides flexibility as he considers working another year or two.

As clubhouse manager, Moppin plays a behind-the-scenes role for the Harrisburg Senators, overseeing daily operations that include equipment, laundry, meals, and facility preparation throughout the season and offseason.

Cue-Nique owner Anne Marie Jacoby said the shop has sold two $1 million-winning tickets in about 20 years and described the win as meaningful for both the store and the community.

State officials noted that the Pennsylvania Lottery continues to generate funding for programs benefiting older Pennsylvanians across all 67 counties. Merry Money Match is a $30 Scratch-Off game that offers top prizes of $1 million.
