Maryland scratch off winner follows grandmas lead

Grandmother’s influence sparks 50K lottery win for Annapolis man

Annapolis, MD – A childhood memory spent watching his grandmother scratch lottery tickets came full circle when an Annapolis man followed her example and uncovered a $50,000 prize of his own.

The man, now in his 30s, claimed the $50,000 prize Monday after winning on a $5 Money Maker scratch-off ticket. He visited Maryland Lottery headquarters on February 2 to validate the ticket and share how his grandmother’s love of the Lottery inspired his own habit years later.

He told officials that as a child, he often watched his grandmother play and occasionally win, an experience that left a lasting impression. When he became old enough, he began playing himself and continues to enjoy scratching tickets on a weekly basis.

The winning ticket was purchased at the Sunoco located at 1207 Forest Drive in Annapolis. The retailer will receive a $500 bonus for selling the $50,000-winning ticket.

The winner said the prize will be used to invest in himself by purchasing a new truck, which he hopes will help him start a business. He added that he plans to continue playing Lottery games following his recent win.
