March 10, 2024

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD – A tragic accident early Saturday morning resulted in the death of one individual and injuries to two others on Connecticut Avenue at Quincy Street. Montgomery County Police, along with Chevy Chase Village Police and Montgomery County Fire/Rescue, responded to the scene of the collision involving a white 2023 Dodge Ram 1500 and a white 2012 Mercedes SLK.

The vehicles, both traveling northbound, collided under circumstances that are yet to be determined. The impact caused the Dodge Ram to strike a Pepco pole and several trees, while the Mercedes overturned. Jobani Alfredo Cruz, 29, from Washington, D.C., the driver of the Dodge, was ejected from his vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

The female passenger of the Dodge and the male driver of the Mercedes sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals. The Montgomery County Police Department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit is conducting a thorough investigation into the incident.
