WOODBRIDGE, N.J. — Authorities in Middlesex County are investigating a fatal hit-and-run after the driver of a vehicle fled the scene of a single-car crash on Friday morning, leaving a passenger dead. The incident occurred at approximately 9:05 a.m. on October 25 near the intersection of Route 9 and Green Street in Woodbridge Township.
According to a joint statement from Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Woodbridge Police Director Robert Hubner, police responding to the scene found a 2017 Kia Sportage with significant damage. The sole occupant of the vehicle, identified as 47-year-old Mario Ortiz Bonilla of North Plainfield, was pronounced dead at the scene.
An investigation led by Detective Jeffery Horvath of the Woodbridge Police Department and Detective Matthew Colonna of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office revealed that the driver of the Kia Sportage had abandoned the vehicle and fled immediately after the crash. Authorities have not released details on the possible identity of the driver or any motives behind the incident.
