DUI arrest and fight investigation lead to two arrests in Cumberland
CUMBERLAND, Md. — A report of a fight outside a Cumberland business led to two arrests Sunday after police stopped a vehicle leaving the scene, authorities said.
Officers responded to the 400 block of Virginia Avenue on March 15 for a report of a fight in progress.
When officers arrived, they observed a vehicle quickly leaving the area while witnesses pointed toward it.
Police conducted a traffic stop and launched an investigation.
Authorities said the driver, Nathaniel Michael Gallion, 37, of Peyton, Colorado, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, negligent driving and an ignition interlock violation.
The passenger, Christopher Stephen Helmase, 46, of Eatonton, Georgia, was arrested on charges including disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace and intoxicated public disturbance.
Gallion was released on citations pending court, while Helmase was transported to the Allegany County Detention Center for an initial appearance before a district court commissioner.
