FROSTBURG, Md. — The City of Frostburg is calling on residents to begin voluntary water conservation efforts in response to ongoing drought conditions and declining water levels at Piney Reservoir.
City officials recommend several measures to reduce water usage, including avoiding lawn watering and car washing, taking shorter showers, and operating washing machines and dishwashers only with full loads. These steps are intended to help alleviate the strain on the city’s limited water resources.
The water conservation advisory affects multiple communities served by Frostburg’s water system, including Eckhart, Consol, Grahamtown, Clarysville, Carlos, Shaft, Klondike, Borden, Zihlman, Mount Savage, Woodcock Hollow, and the Georges Creek Water Service area, which encompasses Midland, Gilmore, Lonaconing, Pekin, and Barton.
City officials will continue to monitor the reservoir levels and have indicated that both conservation efforts and rainfall are essential to restoring water levels to normal. If drought conditions persist, the Mayor and City Council may declare a water conservation emergency.
Residents in all affected areas are encouraged to implement water-saving practices immediately.
